Day 308 of 365 Things To Do in Panama

Day 308 of 365 Things To Do in Panama. Celebrate Flag Day!

During the month of November you will see the country's flag EVERYWHERE. The patriotic spirit exudes as citizens fly them on their cars, houses, government buildings and any surface possible.

However, the national emblem was not always so openly displayed. The design was underway when plans to become a nation were still secret.

The Panamanian flag was designed by Manuel E. Amador and sewn by María Ossa de Amador it was paraded through the streets November 4, 1903.

The original design was striped in red and yellow, but was later replaced with the red, white, and blue flag you see today. The colors of the Panamanian flag symbolize the values that reflect Panama’s political ideals during its new nationhood - purity and honesty (blue), authority and law (red), and peace (white).
