Day 88 of 365 Things to Do in Panama

Day 88 of 365 Things to Do in Panama. Imbibe Bienmesabe!

Bienmesabe is a traditional dessert in Chiriquí. Bienmesabe would

translate to something like “tastes good to me” in English.

The dessert is of Spanish-Gipsy origin, but has become a big hit in the Hub of the Americas.

The primary ingredients of this dish vary throughout Panama - they can be; raspberries, almonds (ground), egg yolks, and honey - mixed with milk and rice.

It has a very descriptive name that leaves no doubt of how tasty it is, although there are people who also call it mielmesabe, possibly because of the presence of cane honey as one of the ingredients. In other countries, there are also sweets called bienmesabe, although some are very different from Panama's and only resemble each other in the name.
