Gatun Lake is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world with an area is 166 square miles (430 square km). It is situated in the Chagres River valley and forms a major part of the Panama Canal system. There are many islands created during the canal construction with abundant wildlife. On Monkey Island you can see howlers, cauchins and tamarins in the their natural habitat. Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of tropical birds, iguanas and more.
