Art is all around to be admired, it can be found in nature, people and sometimes on walls. Panama is full of artistic surprises and you don't have to search hard to find them. Street Art or Graffiti, can be seen at the beach, in the cities and in the mountains. Graffiti is defined as writings or drawings that have been scribbled, scratched or painted illicitly on a surface or wall and is often be viewed by the public. It dates back to ancient times and can be simple words to elaborate paintings. Today artistic expression is based upon spray paint and graffiti styles.
Creative and personal it may express political and social messages or highlight an event or place. In some instances it can mark territory and indicate gang-related activities.
The artist can be an amateur or professional, the work simple or elaborate - either way it usually evokes an emotion from the viewer.
Love it, hate it, understand it or not - there is always a message in the work!
