Day 306 of 365 Things To Do in Panama

Day 306 of 365 Things To Do in Panama. Honor el Dia de los Muertos Holiday!

In Panama, November 2nd marks the annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This is a day of reverence when Panamanians visit the cemeteries and clean up their loved ones graves. They decorate the tombstones and pay their respects with offerings of flowers and food.

It is also declared a 'dry day' by Panama officials which means you cannot buy any alcohol in stores or restaurants until after midnight. Loud music also gets the kibosh.

Unlike other Latin American countries where the mourning is a full week celebration, in Panama, this holiday is a one day event to make way for the official independence festivities that begin tomorrow.

Did you know that ....

Corozal Cemetery in Panama City is listed in 199 Cemeteries To See Before You Die by Loren Rhoads.
