El único Panamá - Week 30
Welcome to our weekly series about the uniqueness of Panama!
Panama celebrates the fisherman Virgin. On July 16, different cities across the country celebrate with music, food and fireworks in honor of "Santa Maria del Monte Carmelo", known as the "Virgen del Carmen" and the patron saint of fishermen around the world. Thousands claim that she protects ventures on and around the sea.
The coastal towns of Gorgona, Chame and San Carlos celebrate with boat processions in honor of the Virgin. Worshipers depart in the their fishing boats carrying an image of the Virgin and playing music. The celebrations take place in-land in their community.
Panamanians are proud of their culture and traditions and take festivals seriously. This is one of the excellent opportunities to experience the celebrations and visit some of the coastal towns of the country.
