~ History in the Making and LORE Magazine was there ~

A musical about Panama, written in Panama, performed by an all-Panamanian cast and crew and presented in English with a Latin Heartbeat.

“Panamá: The Musical” was introduced to the world on February 1st in Teatro Ateneo, Ciudad Del Saber with all the glitz and grandeur of Broadway – with lights, action, music and a party!

The musical is a collaboration between T. Rob Brown, Yolanda Van Der Kolk-Brown and her niece Tara Van Der Kolk created to showcase Panama to the world.

The play is a love story set in the Canal Zone and Casco Viejo in the roaring twenties. A young American songwriter is forced to leave the "Zone" when her father, an Army-contractor, dies, leaving the family heavily indebted to the local cabaret/casino. Suddenly forced to make it on her own in the dangerous streets will she ever realize her dream of hearing her and her Panamanian boyfriend’s songs on this new thing called "radio?"

Desperate, her mother secretly sells her music to the cabaret/casino owner in order to keep herself out of debtor's prison. After winning a radio contest to record her songs in New York, the cabaret/casino owner threatens her if she leaves he will force her thirteen-year-old sister to repay the debt working in the cabaret.

This is a first class production of stagecraft, choreography and original award winning music and lyrics.

The talented production team of director Monalisa Arias and music director Dino Nugent, along with the brilliant performance of the 21 people on stage and 38 behind the scenes bring the story to life.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of history and a spectacular cultural event in Panama before it leaves for Canada and England!
